Melissa's Red Velvet Apricots at the local Bristol Farms

RED VELVET APRICOTS RIGHT, BRUCE'S 'COTS LEFT:

Melissa’s Red Velvet Apricots (actually plumcots) have beautiful deep dark red skin with  golden flesh. The interior of this fruit is a bright golden color and is plum-like in texture with a sweet-vibrant blend of both plum and apricot. The exterior really does look velvety.
'Season is short. Look for them over the next week at Bristol Farms and Gelson's.
 
Renaissance man (and friend), Bruce Coye grew the apricots shown on the left in his backyard. It's almost impossible to compete with the taste of home-ripened apricots. But those Red Velvets come very close with their vibrant sweet-tart flavors .
